We should have faith on Okorocha’s government – Asugha

The Special Assistant to the Imo State government on Public Affairs, Hon. Lisa Asugha has urged the Imo people to have faith on the Governor Okorocha’s Rescue Mission Agenda, admitting that they are faced with serious socio-economic challenges, but encouraged them not to despair.
Hon. Asugha who is however optimistic that the State would get over the challenges and takes its rightful place, also said that the constraints currently facing the State and people are part of what it must go through in its march towards development.
“We must encourage ourselves, because we are facing all these for a better Imo. Let’s be assured that our economic outlook will soon be positive. No matter when this administration began, there were fears on the impact of the State’s economic recession, and implication for investments following the backwardness of the past regimes.
“Of course, many Imolites were seriously worried about the growing rate of unemployment and insecurity. But today, in order to set Imo State on a sound and sustainable path toward economic growth and security, governor Okorocha’s administration unveiled a set of priority policies, programmes and projects encapsulated in the Rescue Mission Agenda,” she stated.
Speaking on the State government’s dissatisfaction with the prevailing unemployment situation in the state, Hon. Asugha disclosed that presently they have embarked on an ambitious strategy of creating jobs through the unveiling of several initiatives and projects mainly targeted on the youth employability.
“From our recent achievements, we have been able to develop cities, infrastructure, industries, ministries and even our education sector; so what we need mostly now is to retrain our people, so that they can be gainfully employed. This very time, we want to take the development of our rural areas serious, because it is when you design offices with table and chair that you will then talk of who to occupy them.”
On why the people must further consolidate the present administration’s programmes and policies, she added that they are aimed at supporting the State’s budget, fostering job creation, engendering private sector-led inclusive growth, and creating of an enabling environment for business to thrive for the general betterment of the lives of Imo people.
Also, on the State government’s commitment to engage over 750 unemployed young engineers in Imo State under Imo Young Engineers Corp (IYEC), she reiterated that it is designed to create a sustainable and specialized manpower development platform that will positively engage the teeming unemployed graduates of Imo State.
Further speaking, she explained that the young engineers would be retained at the newly established Imo College of Advanced Professional Studies (ICAPS) to enhance their skill and also be deployed to the relevant establishments.
