Jonathan Orders Total War Against Boko Haram

President Goodluck Jonathan has directed the armed forces to launch a full-scale military operation against Boko Haram and other violent organisations to put an end to their impunity in the country. “I am determined to protect our democracy, our national unity and our political stability by waging a total war against terrorism,” he said in his nationwide Democracy Day broadcast in Abuja on Thursday. It was not immediately known what such an offensive could entail given that the North-East where most of the activities of terrorists take place has been under emergency rule and a full-scale military operation for a year now. But a top Defence Headquarters official told The PUNCH shortly after the broadcast that the Special Forces and other security operatives involved in the prosecution of the anti-terrorism campaign would have a near unlimited space to operate. The phrase “total war”, however, was used by Chad’s President Idriss Deby following a meeting of Nigeria’s neighb

And he's hit the nail on the head." Some fans expressed their disappointment at the alleged language used. One wrote on Twitter: "Worst part about the video was hearing Louis say 'n**'."

5 Reasons Why Women Should Stay Single

So your mom, your auntie, your Grams and even your pastor seem concerned that you aren’t married yet. They have all kinds of ideas of whom you should date and consider as a life partner. But you are not in a hurry. In fact, you are rather comfortable going solo for now. Here’s what’s special about you. 1. You won’t settle. You have standards and you are not lowering them just to have someone around. You know that if you “settle,” you just won’t be into that other person and the relationship won’t last anyway. 2. To thine own self be true. You hear it all the time. You need to change so you can meet Mr. Right. But you know it’s important that you stay genuine, so that when the right person does come along, he’s into you and not a façade. 3. You don’t mind being alone. Oh sure you like to hang out with other people and have fun. But it’s OK with you to go home by yourself or even stay in and watch TV or do what you do. Just to have someone around for the sake of just that is not your

Weapon of Choice: Photo Project Aims to Highlight The Impact Of Verbal Abuse

"Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words...actually words can hurt me pretty badly too." It might be universal, but it's also a downright lie. "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me." This playground staple is totally misleading. Words have an immensely powerful effect on development, ESPECIALLY among children. The Weapon of Choice Photo Project seeks to draw this to people's attentions, by visually representing the hurt caused by abusive language. Photographer Rich Johnson has used his editing skills to transform some of the terms used by abusers into branding and bruises demonstrating that, just because you can't see the wound in real life, doesn't mean it isn't there. Some think a line is only crossed at physical violence, or total neglect. There are many parents out there who, having suffered mockery and shame in their own childhood home, repeat the cycle without much thought. But don't be fooled, th

Eurovision 2014 in pictures: Austria win as UK comes 17th

Austria win the Eurovision Song Contest 2014. The UK's drought of Eurovision Song Contest victories continues after the nation's entry again fell well short of the top spot. After securing her victory, Conchita said: "This award is dedicated to everybody who believes in a world of peace and freedom. "You know who you are - we are unity and we are unstoppable." Conchita's win seemed to come as a surprise for many, despite being a clear favourite from early on in the competition. As voting started, however, it appeared to be neck-and-neck between the Austrian contestant and the entrant from The Netherlands, who came second. It is estimated the competition was watched by a massive 180 million view
