Catholic Church Punishing Mbaka - Says APC

The Enugu state chapter of the All Progressive Congress (APC) is unhappy with the transfer of Ejike Mbaka, a reverend father and spiritual director of the Adoration Ministry Enugu (AMEN), from Christ the King parish, GRA, Enugu, to lesser-known Our Lady Parish, Umuchigbo, Njinike, by the Enugu Catholic Diocese. The party is also unhappy that Mbaka, a senior priest, has been ” will be degraded to an assistant parish priest” at his new posting. Mbaka moved out of Enugu on Saturday, describing his transfer as a witch-hunt and saying he would suffer at his new base, but he promised not to fight anybody as he was “welcoming the church’s voice with absolute acceptance and obedience”. Defending the priest in a statement on Sunday, Osita Okechukwu, spokesman of the APC south-east caucus, alleged that the transfer was influenced by outside forces and expressed concerns over Mbaka’s safety. “It is wrong to punish the fearless priest for his prophecies, which have proven to be from God,” read th

Mbaka says ‘I will suffer in my new posting’

Ejike Mbaka, a reverend father and spiritual director of the Adoration Ministry Enugu (AMEN), on Saturday departed Christ the King parish, GRA, Enugu, for his new duty post at Our Lady Parish, Umuchigbo, Njinike, saying that he was going to suffer. But he maintained that he would not fight anybody over the posting. Mbaka, who said his posting out of Enugu was a witch-hunt, has been fiery in his comments on political developments in the country, particularly in the lead-up to the presidential election. In January 2015, Mbaka, the most popular priest in the south-east, dealt a devastating blow on President Goodluck Jonathan by asking him to step down for Muhammadu Buhari, his major opponent. In the video of the sermon, which went viral, Mbaka said. “I love President Goodluck Jonathan and I used to be his ardent fan, but I want good for my people and that’s why I want Nigerians to vote out Goodluck Jonathan and vote General Muhammad Buhari. “I don’t care if Buhari is a Muslim and from th

Ibori Replies Attorney-General: "There Is No Ibori Loot Anywhere"

Read the press statement below... Chief James Onanefe Ibori’s Media Office was shocked to read in the newspapers of Wednesday January 27, 2016, that the Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Mr. Abubakar Malami, said the Federal Government was priming itself to recover the sum of 6.9m British Pounds Sterling described as “Ibori loot”. In a press statement, Mr. Tony Eluemunr, Ibori’s Media Assistant said ‘’there is no Ibori loot anywhere in the world. Such money, whether in British pounds, American dollars or the Nigerian Naira just does not exist. This is because the Ibori London trial is not yet over. It is an incontrovertible fact that the confiscation hearing has not started at all, and remains months away into the future. This makes it disappointing that a high official of State such as the Attorney-General may have been misled into believing that an Ibori loot not only exists anywhere, but he even put a figure (6.9 million pounds) to it. Mr. Eluemunor

Buhari still fighting insurgency with the equipment I bought, says Jonathan

Former President Goodluck Jonathan says the current administration is prosecuting the war against insurgency with the arms which were procured under his government. In an interview with France 24, the Nigerian leader said insurgency caught the country unawares but his government laid a solid foundation for terrorism to be defeated. “The new government is working hard and I believe they are still using the equipment we procured. Though the budget is still being debated, no new equipment has been bought, so even those equipment the president is using to prosecute the war against Boko Haram are those equipment we procured,” he said. “When Boko Haram started in Nigeria, we had no terror experience. Yes we had armed robbery and other common crimes, but terrorism was different because the people involved were not afraid to die. “So, you need a different mechanism to confront terrorism, you need superior technology, so that you will be able to stop them even before the attack. We never had t

Okonjo-Iweala blasts Falana over linkage with $2.1bn arms scandal

Former Finance Minister, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has described as malicious attempts by Lagos lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana (SAN), to link her with the $2.1 billion arms scandal. Falana had written the International Criminal Court, ICC, asking it to investigate those allegedly involved in the arms deal, including the former National Security Adviser, NSA, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.) Media Assistant to the former minister, Mr. Paul Nwabuiku, said in a statement yesterday: ‘’The malicious attempt by Lagos lawyer, Femi Falana to mix Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala up in issues that have nothing to do with her in his letter to the International Criminal Court, ICC, is a desperate joke by an integrity-challenged charlatan. ‘’This misadventure shows that the so-called learned lawyer does not have any idea of what the mandate of the ICC is about. Okonjo-Iweala ‘’He has resorted to this action because his previous efforts to tarnish her image, through his discredited NGO, SERAP and petitions to the EFCC

Who will save Warri from its rot?

By Sunny Ikhioya THE story of Warri city has been told so many times, a city that has given so much, yet got so little in return, with a giant sized reputation and wallowing in penury, a happy people, hospitable and full of live, yet dying slowly. Who will save Warri from its rot? You cannot see a Warri boy – wafarian – anywhere and not take notice; his unique pidgin english language, his braggadocio, his vigour and yes, his jokes. The wafarian lives by joking and ‘yabbing’, which is the kernel of his social interactions. Before now, you cannot claim to be a super star without coming to Warri, the days of Lido nite club, Zeinanite club and others. The city was safe – 24 hours groove and hospitality. Warri was infact a no man’s land as there was no ethnic discrimination of any kind. Even during the Nigerian civil war, Warri was neutral, that shows the extent of generosity that this small but significant city possess. But all of these are now in the past, a first time visitor to War

STOLEN BUDGET: I Protected Sen Ita Enang – Sen Godswill Akpabio

Below is the transcribed interview of Sen Godswill Akpabio… We have heard of people who claim they’re defecting from one party to the other in the state, i understand that politics is dynamic, so people can always reverse decisions. But politics demand consistency and loyalty, so I remain loyal to my party, I remain consistent. Now there’s a new technology in the country, it was propounded by the governor of Ekiti state, which they call stomach infrastructure. What that means is that when the politician thinks that power is moving to a different sector, the person tries to move along with it because of stomach infrastructure. The stomach infrastructure politicians have no principles, they will always try to move and dance with the time and those people have no ideologies and all that, so, you can’t stop such people. In Akwa ibom, we’ve not had any defection, the PDP in Akwa Ibom State is still very intact. The people they write in the newspapers and say they’re defecting are peopl

NLC asks Buhari to tell Nigerians how he’ll revive economy

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), on Sunday in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital advised the Federal Government tell Nigerians through mapped out policies and programmes how it would revive the country’s economy. Ayuba Wabba, the NLC President, told NAN that well defined policies should be formulated to address the various economic challenges confronting the nation. “The challenge in the economy is obviously monumental, if you look at all the indices in the economy, you will know that we are actually in for difficult time. “The continuous depreciation of the currency in recent times at the parallel market and the downward trend in the global oil price, call for re-think. “I think it is time for us to be determined as a people, and I think it is important for our political leaders to look at other options of how to respond to these issues. “We need very sound economic policies that will address the country’s challenges, and part of it is to diversify our sources of revenue.” Wabba urged the g

Army: All Machinations Against Buratai Will Fail

The Nigeria army says Tukur Buratai, the chief of army staff, will not be distracted by “evil machinations”, which will “surely fall back” on the bearers. Responding to the call for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to probe him, Sani Usman, spokesman of the army, described the allegation as “mischief”. He referred to Save the Nation Movement (STNM), which made the claim, as a “faceless” group and called on the public to disregard the message being passed across. Usman said Buratai has never been involved in any questionable act all through his military career. “The Nigerian army has noted with dismay the attempt to rubbish the hard earned name and reputation of the chief of army staff, Lieutenant General and the Nigerian army by a faceless group that called itself Save the Nation Movement (STNM),” Usman said in a statement. “In a release signed by Steven Chilaka, its National Secretary on Sunday, they wanted the chief of army staff to be included among those indicte

Buhari And APC Didn’t Have Plans Of What To Do With Power, Says Yakassai

HOW would you assess the President Muhammadu Buhari’s performance so far? My assessment is the same as that of Nigerians in general that President Muhammadu Buhari is lucky to have realised his life ambition to be become President of Nigeria. He was the military head of state and due to some misunderstanding he had with his colleagues, they removed him. His attempt to become civilian President three times was not successful, but before the last attempt, he declared that he would not run again. But because some of his supporters, who want to use his popularity to benefit themselves, they persuaded him to and he contested and won, even though with a slimmest majority in the history of presidential election in Nigeria. Now, it is the common experience from all Nigerians that the country is more difficult today than what it was this time last year. No doubt about that. In my opinion, Buhari has been nursing the ambition to come to power for a very long time, but I can inform you, fro

Osinbajo: Nigeria spent N1trn on subsidies in 2015… this won’t happen in 2016

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo says Nigeria will not be spending N1 trillion on subsidies in 2016, like it did last year. Speaking to CNN’s business analyst, Richard Quest in Davos, Switzerland, Osinbajo also said that every Nigerian trusts President Muhammadu Buhari to stand by his promise to fight corruption. He was enthusiastic about Nigeria’s chances of surviving sharp falls in crude oil prices, saying the country has a lot of room for revenue generation other than oil. “We spent something in the order of $5 billion (N1 trillion) on subsidies last year and we are not going to have to spend any of that this year, so that’s a substantial savings. So for the man on the street, for the man who is going to the pumps to buy petrol, that’s good news,” he said. “We have plenty of room in domestic resource mobilization, we have plenty of room in taxes, we are collecting 20 percent of VAT at the moment and we can widen that coverage, do much more in terms of coverage of revenue, plug in leaka

I Criticised Jonathan Nothing Happened, I Criticised Buhari & I Get Death Threats – Sheikh Gumi

A prominent Nigerian Islamic cleric, Ahmad Gumi, said Tuesday he has been threatened for not supporting Muhammadu Buhari, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC. The Kaduna-based cleric raised the alarm on Tuesday in a Facebook post titled, “PDP v APC: It’s Not about Religion.” He said his children have also been receiving calls from persons who use unknown telephone numbers to threaten them. “People like me who had all along been critical about the government can no longer speak or express personal opinion if it is not in support of Gen. Buhari,” said Shiekh Gumi. Complete Message by Cleric Gumi, read below… PDP v APC: it’s not about religion. Surely there is religion in politics and politics in religion. However the 2015 PDP v APC is not about religion. It’s a time bomb and God is not the author of mischief. Security members have clamped down on APC members and took away their computers, while some irrational youth are threatening the lives of PDP mem

Emefiele: Between a rock and a hard place

I read with absolute interest Simon Kolawole’s article, The Parable of Dollars and Dullards, published on January 17, 2015. I read the article at least five times. If I had any hope that the exchange rate crisis was going to be over soon, I have since perished the thought. He painted a very clear picture of the trouble we have found ourselves as a nation. Kolawole’s major argument is that we are paying for the sins of yesteryears and there is no magic formula to rescue us yet. In other words, we should not expect any magical recovery except the fortune of oil changes in the international market. Unfortunately, there is no such chance for now. Big economies such as China and India are slowing down, thereby affecting the demand for oil. There is also an oversupply of crude oil in the market, which could be further worsened by Iran’s return to business. Oil prices will only continue to fall. The new realities are not too good for us. Before I read Kolawole’s article, my view all along wa

APC Says God is Responsible for Nigeria’s Economic Situation

National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr. John Odigie-Oyegun says that God might have a hand in Nigeria’s present economic downturn intended to remind Nigeria the need to implement and embrace drastic change, particularly in the country’s economic model.‎ Odigie-Oyegun made this statement when Change Agents Foundation (CAF), an APC support group led by its Director-General, Dr. Felix Felix paid him a courtesy visit at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja. “I think God has a hand in the current economic predicament of the country. Imagine the sudden fall in the price of crude oil, the mainstay of the Nigerian economy, from its heights in 2014, averaging $112 per barrel down to the current price of $28 per barrel — lower than the $38 per barrel which the proposed 2016 budget is predicated on. It is an object lesson for us. It tells us that we must embrace radical change in our economic model.” He said the drop in oil price has taken its toll on the revenue a

Dasuki drags FG to ECOWAS court, demands N500m damages

Following his continued detention despite meeting his bail conditions, former National Security Adviser (NSA), Sambo Dasuki, has filed a suit against the Federal Government before the ECOWAS Court in Abuja and is demanding payment of N500 million damages for alleged rights infringement. In the suit filed by his lawyer, Robert Emukpoeruo, Dasuki asked the court to declare his continued detention as “unlawful, arbitrary and an egregious violation” of his human rights. Dasuki in the suit also asked the court to declare that the alleged invasion of his Abuja and Sokoto residences on July 16 and 17, 2015 and the “forceful and unlawful seizure” of his properties, “without any lawful order or warrant” constituted a gross violation of his fundamental rights and offended the country’s treaty obligations as a signatory to the listed legal instruments. No date has been set for hearing of the suit. In a related development, Justice Adeniyi Ademola of the Federal High Court, Abuja yesterday or
