SENATE PRESIDENCY: PDP positions Mark, Ekweremadu, Akpabio

As speculations mount over the future of embattled Senate President Bukola Saraki, plots by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to supplant the majority All Progressives Congress (APC) and take over leadership of the senate are intensifying. The Nation had reported a few days ago the PDP was plotting a sensational take-over of the upper chamber of the National Assembly in the event that Saraki is consumed by his ongoing trial by the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT). The party is mobilising its members in the Senate to ensure one of its own replaces Saraki if the presidency of the senate becomes vacant. With that as a goal, it is said to be seriously considering one of the trio of former Senate President David Mark, Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu and Senate Minority Leader, Godswill Akpabio, as possible candidates for the position. The Nation also learnt that the three senators are being supported by various groups within the party and the senate. The opposition part

Fulani herdsmen working for Boko Haram – Olu Falae

The former Secretary to Government of the Federation, Olu Falae, has revealed that six Fulani herdsmen kidnapped him on Monday and made him trek 30km from Ilado where he was taken, to Owo. He also said he was made to sleep in the bush for three days as the kidnappers changed their locations every four hours. President Muhammadu Buhari had on Wednesday directed the Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, to ensure the rescue of the former minister. While speaking with Governor Olusegun Mimiko, who paid him a visit at his residence in Obaile, Mr. Falae said he believed the herdsmen were working for Boko Haram. The Afenifere chieftain said he was made to sleep on the bare floor throughout his stay with his captors. A family source, who said he was present when Mr. Falae explained his ordeal, said he was not certain if ransom was paid. “Baba has just narrated his ordeal to some of us. His abductors made him to trek from his farm to Owo. Baba also said he was sleeping on the ‎ground s

During My Playing Days, I Used Juju – Taribo West

The ex-footballer turned pastor said he had a manager from Senegal and his manager would take him to several native doctors in Senegal where they will cut his tongue, hands and legs and then cook it. “I spend most of my time at home meditating. All I want to do is to keep spreading the gospel. In my own little way, I have been into evangelisation visiting places like Ughelli and within the Orile community, Ajegunle and so on. God has been kind during these visits to preach the gospel to people who are yet to receive Christ. We believe He will take us global very soon,” Taribo said. It will be recalled that Super Eagles attacker, Brown Ideye came out and advised African players to stop using juju to enhance their playing prowess. “Your background experience counts. We turn to God to give us direction. I’m happy how far He has taken us. “The gospel is for the poor, rich and noble. Part of the gift God gave me is to reach out to the downtrodden. It is good if you can reach out to the dow

Senators Receive $50,000 ‘Sallah Gift’ To Impeach Saraki

With the drama surrounding the trial of Senate President, Bukola Saraki by the Code of Conduct has taken a new dimension as reports have emerged claiming that some senators who are not in support of his leadership of the upper chamber have been paid to impeach him as soon as the Senate resumes at the end of their six week break. A senator who received the said sum was said to have disclosed that “they said the money was Sallah gift, but we know what they want. The motive is clear.” The senator further said that the cash gift “is to curry our support before we reconvene. They are not happy that Saraki wield so much influence here like when about 81 senators passed a vote of confidence on him. They want to reduce his influence on members ahead of resumption date.” The senator also disclosed that one senator from

Amaechi Drags PDP To Court, Seeks N300bn Damages

Former Rivers State governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, has dragged the Peoples Democratic Party in the state, its Chairman, Chief Felix Obuah, and two others to an Abuja High Court over allegations that he embezzled $757m (N80bn) belonging to the state while in office. In what appears to be a fight back by the former governor, Amaechi said in a statement he issued on Tuesday that he had also sued the state PDP and two others for alleging that he (Amaechi) operated a private foreign account where he lodged the said public funds. Although the former governor did not identify the two other persons he joined in his suit, Amaechi said the allegation had done a lot of harm to his person and reputation, and he demanded N300 billion as damages. Amaechi recalled that the state PDP on August 6, and August 21, 2015, alleged that he stole the sum of $757 million or N80 billion of Rivers money and stashed them away in an account in his name in Bancorp Bank in Minnesota, United State of America. He went on to reveal how he patiently waited to steal a bag that had about N600, 000, two cell phones belonging to the widow and her late husband, a cheque book with an ATM pin written at the edge of the cover, an ATM card and a briefcase containing the late husband’s documents, which was handed over to the woman’s son for safe keeping. The pastor immediately used the money to buy a land in Uyo, withdrew all th

Man Builds A Dog Train To Take His Rescue Dogs Out On Rides

If you are in Fort Worth, Texas, you might get a glimpse of an unusual train puttering down a road. You might have to do a double take, as you realize it’s a train filled with dogs! Eighty-year-old Eugene Bostick and his “dog train” are well known to locals. He’s been driving the tractor with eight barrels in tow for several years. It turns out the retiree built the train for the stray dogs he’s rescued with his brother over the years, after people have dumped the dogs near their property. “I started out with my tractor. I had a little trailer and I put four or five dogs in there and took them riding. Then more dogs started to show up and I said, ‘Uh-oh! That’s not enough room!’ That’s when I came up with that,” Bostick told NBCDFW explaining how the dog train came into being. Recently, Tiffany Johnson, who has seen him regularly go by her office, wanted to take a picture. “This is the coolest guy he rescues stray dogs and every morning he takes them for a train ride by our building

WHY AKWA IBOM APC CONTINUES IN DECEPTION - Emmanuel Nicholas

My Uruan people have one lofty aphorism, which when directly translated says, "When you cannot catch the shark, search for crayfish, instead of leaving the ocean without a haul". The recent activity of the Akwa Ibom APC and their candidate aptly suits that saying. It is simply annoying that the APC took a case to the Election tribunal for a decision and after messing up with the case by parading witnesses that contradicted itself, it now storms the media to create a false impression that it is winning. The truth which no one can deny is that the APC in Akwa Ibom is playing on the sympathy of a few people to keep hope alive in what is unarguably a hopeless situation. Their move is comparable to the recent Frank Okon's case, where a lot of Akwa Ibom people lost billions of naira to that unholy crusade of winning party nomination with two votes and becoming the governor of Akwa Ibom State through litigation, without any visible political structure within the State. The vict

Sierra Leone Has 4 New Cases Of Ebola Disease Recorded

Four new cases of the Ebola disease have been recorded in Serra Leone. According to reports, those infected with the disease had direct contact with a woman who died of Ebola last month in a village. This development not only poses a major setback to all efforts to end the outbreak in Sierra Leone, but also increases the likelihood of recording more infections within Serra Leone and other neighboring countries. The Head of Sierra Leone’s National Ebola Response Centre, Pallo Conteh, while speaking on the new diagnoses, accused the family members of the deceased of hiding her from health workers when she was ill and resorting to taking care of her themselves. Even after she died, they carried out their traditional practice of washing the corpse of the woman without the use proper disinfectants. “Our people are stubborn. Until they stop doing what I call the silly things we will have cases popping up here and there. I am expecting more cases,” Conteh said. “We are sure that the body w

HURRAY: NYSC Now Allows Students To Choose States For Deployment

In the wake of recent attacks and unrest across the states of Nigeria, the NYSC board has now included in the registration procedure of NYSC members to choose at least 3 states which they would love to be deployed from which one will be finally selected for them by the board. I think the NYSC has started to become liberal and more democratic with this initiative but it will stand against the main motive for which the programme was established! The disadvantage of this development will be very disturbing; as some states will be favoured at the expense of the others. However, the corps members have restricted Geo-political zones depending on the school they graduated from!

The injured were mostly indigenes of neighboring states who had come to the state in search of miracle at a popular deliverance ministry. Delta state deputy Governor Kingsley Otuaro, who visited the scene of the incident attributed the cause of the collapse to structural defect. "The state government has ordered that the hotel be closed immediately to avert further loss of lives. We are going to send engineers straight away. It is very possible that there have been some structural defect ab initio during construction works because that place seems to be a waterlogged area and maybe the proper engineering works were not done.” he said One of the victims of the incident, Adeza who is an ADC to one of the northern state First Lady, said she was in the state to seek for spiritual help for her many family troubles

PDP says they’ll never hang Buhari’s portrait in their offices

The PDP has refused to hang the official portrait of President Muhammadu Buhari at the party’s national secretariat, Wadata House national secretariat, located at Zone 5, Abuja, despite the fact that it has removed that of former President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan. The National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Olisa Metuh on Tuesday said: “We will never hang his portrait in this office, because President Buhari is not known to our party. He is not a leader of our party and therefore we will never put his portrait here. We are a political party, very partisan and therefore, we are not going to hide that," Metuh said the APC did not hang the portrait of former Pres. Jonathan in its offices while he was in office. Hence they wouldn't hang Pres Buhari's portrait because he is not a member of their party. He said: "We will never hang his portrait in this office, because President Buhari is not known to our party. He is not a leader of our party and therefore we will never

Saudi Man Divorces Wife For Dancing In Front Of TV At Home

A Saudi man instantly divorced his wife after catching her dancing in front of the TV at their home. He told her what she did was an unforgivable. According to Emirates 24/7, the unnamed woman had waited for her husband to go out before she turned on her favourite TV music channel and started to dance in front of the TV set in her room. Her husband had warned her against watching such channels, but she went behind his back and ciphered some of them so he would not know she was watching them. The woman told the Saudi daily 'Sada' that her husband had warned her many times against watching such channels and that she must see only religious and social channels which he likes to watch. "She said that she waited for him to go out on that day, turned on her favorite channel and started to dance. As she was dancing, her husband returned home but she did not hear him coming as the music was loud. She said that when he saw her dancing, he immediately divorced her despite her ple

JP Morgan gives October deadline to remove Nigeria from Government Bond Index

JP Morgan, yesterday, announced that it will remove Nigeria from its Government Bond Index (GBI-EM) by the end of October. The bank had warned Nigeria that to stay in the index, it would have to restore liquidity to its currency market in a way that allowed foreign investors tracking the index to conduct transactions with minimal hurdles. It says Nigeria’s currency controls were making transactions too complicated. The removal will force funds to sell Nigerian bonds, triggering potentially significant capital outflows and raising borrowing costs for the government. Nigeria’s Finance Ministry, central bank and Debt Management Office said in a statement they “strongly” disagreed with the index expulsion, saying that market liquidity was improving. “While we would continue to ensure that there is liquidity and transparency in the market, we would like to note that the market for (government) bonds remains strong and active due … to diversity of the domestic investor base,” the state

From militancy to manufacturing: N-Delta youths shock the world with locally made products

CALABAR — FOR many who thought that nothing good can come out of Niger Delta, the up-to-the-minute promotion/exhibition of products manufactured and packaged by some ingenous youths of the region at Calabar, capital of Cross River State is astonishing. Under the auspices of the Calabar Micro, Medium and Small Enterprises Summit, powered by Growth and Employment in States (GEMS4) in collaboration with Made in Nigeria (MiN) Global Consulting Services, the youths displayed items, including cooking burner (plate) that smolders with bio fuel from cocoa, melon, afang, okro and other varieties of soup packaged in ready to eat forms like noodles. DE BLISS CHECK: There Is Only One Thief In Nigeria And His Name Is Goodluck Jonathan - By Bayo Adeyinka

A nation is as transparent as its media. A nation is also as corrupt as its media. The more corrupt a nation's media is, the more corrupt that nation is also. In fact, the corruption of a nation is directly proportional to the corruption of its media. You can also replace the word 'media' with 'social critics' and the import of the sentence is still the same. Why am I reflecting on the media and social critics today? A few weeks ago, we were regaled with news of allegations of Babatunde Fashola's corrupt acts- the 2 boreholes that cost N139m, the untraceable construction project in Onikan that cost N1.2b, the personal website he upgraded with N78m and the several choice plots of land he hurriedly allocated at the end of his tenure which Ambode has reversed. When 'they' saw that not only will Fashola be demystified but even their own Ashiwaju may win the battle but he may never win the war, Ashiwaju released a statement to bury the case. How many people

PDP Governors Condemn DSS Invasion Of Akwa Ibom Govt. House

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors Forum on Tuesday criticised the reported invasion of Akwa Ibom Government House by operatives of Department of State Service (DSS). The governors gave the condemnation after a meeting in the Bayelsa State Governor’s office in Yenagoa. The Chairman of the forum, Gov. Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo, who read a communiqué after the meeting, said the invasion was against the spirit and tenets of democratic norms and tradition. “We insist that the trend must stop henceforth. No democracy survives without a viable opposition in any part of the world. “And we must also remember to remind the APC that they are the real beneficiaries of the liberal democratic ethos of the PDP. “We once more advise the DSS to preoccupy itself with the task of ensuring internal security and desist from daily harassing and intimidating members of the opposition. “We implore the international community, the civil society organisations and human rights activists to call the All

Why residents are reluctant to pay electricity bills – Gov Okowa

ASABA- DELTA State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, has said that residents in the state were reluctant to pay electricity bills and sometimes get hostile with the Benin Electricity Distribution Company, BEDC, because of epileptic power supply. Okowa stated this, Monday, when he played host to the chair of BEDC, Mr. Victor Osibodu, who led the management team to him at Government House, Asaba. The governor, who called for community sensitization on the current state of power distribution in the state, said, “There is a need for our communities to be sensitized on your activities because the various communities over the years pay bills and do not receive any power supply.” “So they need to be enlightened that you are something different than what has been perceived, we have sometimes seen communities get hostile because they believe that the services will never come after they have made payments,” He said that the current power distribution of 140megawatts to the state got was quit

6 Things Women Notice About Men In 6 Minutes

According to Dr Gordon Patzer, author of Looks: Why They Matter More Than You Ever Imagined, and one of the world’s leading authorities on physical attractiveness, a lot of what women notice in the first few minutes is appearance-based. “A substantial portion of the six features of a man are apparent, in terms of height, weight and overall physical attractiveness,” he says. And when appearances don’t make the cut, the door slams shut on further interactions. Here’s a list of things to keep that door open. 1. Physical stature Yep, you knew this already: size matters. Height and weight are right on top of the list of things women notice. “Too much or too little of either immediately classifies the man as unattractive to women, and closes the door before less physically obviously features (such as confidence) can be determined,” says Dr Patzer. Take heart though, the acceptable range is influenced by the woman’s own height and weight. 2. Appearances and attractiveness Yes, beauty i

Emeka Ike Claims Pastor Okotie Is Behind His Marriage Crisis

Popular Nollywood actor and producer, Emeka Ike, has accused Rev. Chris Okotie of Household of God Church, as the one behind the ongoing crisis in his marriage. The veteran actor in a statement revealed he’s crying out because of the “desperate desperation” of pastor Okotie to destroy his family. Recall that for a while now, the actor has been having issues with his wife, Suzanne, with the wife filing a divorce suit before a customary court in Lagos. Suzanne is seeking dissolution of her 12-year-old marriage over alleged assault from her husband. The actor claimed that pastor Okotie got his wife a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), to pursue her case, gave her N500,000 for her mother’s burial and even bought her a blackberry passport phone! In the actor’s statement, Emeka Ike said he is writing the statement to let the whole world know the “devil” behind the plot to destroy his home, after all efforts to beg his wife to drop the divorce bid failed. Read the statement below: ”I want p
