Lagos – The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) downplayed the defection of its members in the Rivers State to the All Progressives Congress (APC)
The Rivers State chapter of the ruling party said the formal defection of the members of the State House of Assembly loyal to Governor Chibuike Amaechi was “belated” and “of no consequence” to the PDP.
The Party in a statement signed by the Special Adviser, Media to the State chairman, Jerry Needam, berated the lawmakers for inundating the media with “stale news” stressing that their membership of the APC was not a new development.
The PDP recalled that same lawmakers had long ceased to be party members since they were suspended for anti-party activities and while contesting their suspension from the PDP in court went ahead to take part in the APC state-wide membership registration exercise last year which PDP said was a clear case of contempt of court.
The party, according to the statement, had continued to grow bigger and stronger without them ever since, and had never wished to have them back to its fold because, it said, were rather a cog in the party’s wheel of progress.
“We are the least bothered because we are not looking for liabilities which the rubber stamp lawmakers are,” PDP stated.
“Our party is on track and has lost nothing because these people had never been part of us. The formal announcement of their defection is inconsequential and most uneventful.”
The APC and PDP have been hit by a spate of defections between the two parties ahead of next year’s elections.

Yes, it actually took place in Nigeria, Lagos, a city where everything seems possible. When Chinyere, 18, decided to leave her mother in Abia State and pay her father, John Awah, a visit in Lagos, she must have been longing for a tender loving care, which fathers give their children. Upon her arrival, her father was shocked to his bone marrow that his daughter who left him when she was a year old, had suddenly grown to a full girl, and he suddenly fell in love with her. Awah said: “I became attracted ...
