National Coordinator of the Goodluck Initiative For Transformation (GIFT 2015), Mr. Chinedu Okpalanma, has reacted to Asiwaju Bola Tinubu’s comment that President Goodluck Jonathan is incompetent and unfit to rule the country.
Bola Tinubu
It was reported on August 6, that Tinubu during an APC rally in Osogbo to support re-election of Governor Aregbesola had said the President Jonathan is incompetent and confused thereby not fit to rule the nation.
He said: “President Goodluck Jonathan does not understand what it means to govern. He knows nothing about good governance. He’s confused. “How can he bring soldiers to Osun because of election and claimed to be protecting youth corps members, when he should have used that force to stop the killing of our people in the North?”
National Coordinator of the Goodluck Initiative For Transformation (GIFT 2015), Mr. Chinedu Okpalanma, reacting to Tinubu’s statement in a media briefing, yesterday, said such utterances from past leaders, who are part of the problem Jonathan’s government inherited, were the singular reason the ongoing transformation agenda must be supported at all costs by Nigerian youths.
He said this has become necessary in order to flush out those hellbent on misleading the masses for their selfish interests.
He stated: “We, as an organisation, find the remarks made by Asiwaju Bola Tinubu at the APC rally in Osun State very unfortunate and disappointing, where he tried to portray President Goodluck Jonathan as incompetent to lead Nigeria, considering the facts on ground.
“When elders, who are supposed to tell the truth, use such medium to spread inflammatory lies, even when they helped create some of the problems this government is fixing, it really shows why all hands must be on the deck to help phase out such leaders who do not tell their followers the truth, but who will go to any length to grab power, not because they offered something better when they had the opportunity or because they have something better to offer now.”
Okpalanma insisted that the only way to achieve a new Nigeria is by supporting the transformation agenda of President Goodluck Jonathan and ensuring he was re-elected in 2015, as that will usher in a new era where the people could freely speak for themselves and not be held in bondage by a few who are still unrepentant because they feel leadership belongs exclusively to them.
“President Jonathan has shown his commitment towards bettering our lives through strengthening institutions and breaking down cartels that have held us in bondage for decades. Does that read like an incompetent leader? We understand they are not happy because Mr President is gradually giving back power to the people. They love to operate in an atmosphere of hate and division, because that is where they are able to manipulate information so they can control everything,” he added.
