Woman’s Pregnancy Disappears After 9 Months

For 9 months, she was carrying a baby in her womb. Nurses and doctors told her that everything was fine every time she would go for check up. She would even feel the baby kicking right inside her tummy. But when she was due for labour nothing came out! How strange.

This was the case for two Guruve women who come from Chief Bepura area in Chitauro and Matirira villages respectively. They were heavily pregnant for 9 months. They never miscarried but their pregnancies just disappeared at the time of going for labour. Their ordeal has cultivated so much terror and fear amongst villagers of this area, mainly amongst women.

Keresina Mushonyi (37) of Chitauro village, and Calistar Matirira (20) of Matirira village, who were both pregnant got the shock of their lives after their pregnancies mysteriously disappeared on the very last minute.

Mushoni, who is married to Richard Madhuro (47), said she just realised a few weeks ago that she was no longer pregnant. She said three months after falling pregnant, she went to Mudindo clinic in Bepura where she registered. She was expecting her fifth child and every month nurses would assure her that all was well.

“I registered for maternity at the clinic three months after falling pregnant. I would go to the clinic every month and nurses assured me that everything was well. I had labour pains on the 17th of last month and I was ferried to the clinic by a scotch cart. I could feel it that I’m about to deliver. The first midwife got shocked and called her colleague. After a short while they called another midwife who they revealed to me that I did not have any baby in my womb,” said Mushoni.

Her husband, Richard Madhuro, said he was shocked to see his wife returning home empty handed. He said it was the work of witchcraft.

“My baby was stolen by witches or satanists. I cannot spend 9 month heavily pregnant then tell me that the baby cannot be located anymore. Nurses could previously see the baby and my wife would feel the baby in her womb. This is witchcraft,” he said.

Mushoni said after returning from the clinic she would have queer dreams. She would dream on pigs and other strange animals sucking her breasts. She said she was accompanied by her mother to their rural home in Chikombedzi, Chiredzi, where she got traditional healers assistance. She was advised not to accept anything from her neighbours as they were responsible for the mishap that had befallen her.

The other woman who experienced the same tragedy, Calistar Matirira (20), reportedly had been pregnant for 10 good months. She is a daughter of village head for Matirira kraal, Sekuru Tsvaganai Matirira (73).

“It’s true my daughter’s pregnancy mysteriously disappeared after 10 months. She never had miscarriage. This was her second time getting pregnant and she currently has one child,” said Village head Matirira.

Efforts to get a comment from Calistar proved futile as she was said to have visited her sister in Mutorashanga.
