A 29 Year Old Man Charged For Raping An Under-Aged Girl

A 29-year-old man, Mudassiru Abdullahi, on Monday appeared before a Senior Magistrates’ Court in Katsina for alleged rape of an 11-year-old girl. Abdullahi, who resides in Borindawa village, Malumfashi Local Government Area, was arraigned before Magistrate Nafisa Bagiwa on a one-count-charge of rape. The Police First Information Report (FIR) stated that the accused committed the offence on June 2 at about 7:30 p.m. It stated that one Murtala Musa reported the matter to the Mulumfashi Police Station on June 3 at about 12 noon. The FIR stated that Musa had informed the police that the accused criminally deceived his younger sister into his room and had sexual intercourse with her. It stated that the complainant said that the victim was taken to Malumfashi General Hospital where she was examined and treated for injuries she sustained when she was raped by Abdullahi. It stated that the offence contravened Section 283 of the Penal Code. Bagiwa, however, did not take plea of the accused, and directed that the case file should be forwarded to the state Ministry of Justice for advice. She remanded the accused in prison custody, and adjourned the case till July 20.
