Akwa Ibom will today play host to three African leaders, and sports icons across the continent, who are to witness the inauguration of Akwa Ibom Stadium, executed by the administration of Governor Godswill Akpabio.
Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mr. Aniekan Umanah, at a press briefing, last Wednesday, said that President Goodluck Jonathan will inaugurate the 30,000-capacity stadium, in company of the Ghanian President, John Mahama and his Cote D’Ivoire counterpart, Alassane Dramane Ouattara.
Also expected in the State are, the Vice President of FIFA and President of Confederation of African Football, Issa Hayattou, as well as football legends.
Mr. Umanah told journalists that President Jonathan will also unveil the commemorative plaque of the stadium, after performances by some Akwa Ibom music stars, including Aity Dennis, Pat Akpabio, Fadabasi, Icekid, Pasto Goody Goody, Ann Inyang, and Lemmy Jackson.
According to the Information Commissioner, Dorrobucchi’s Marvins Crew; the Limpopo crooner, Presh, and Akwa Ibom-born talent, Mish, will equally thrill the audience with his “Akwa Ibom Ayaiya” song.
He said the event will also feature grand parade by Greater Tomorrow Football Academy, The State Cheer Leaders, Akwa Ibom Future Professionals Group, The Royal Rangers, Uyai Iban, Itembe, Council for Arts and Culture, Ekpe, Ekpo, the 9999 Choristers, the State Fire Service, Akwa Ibom State Government Ushers and The Ibom Brass Band.
Highpoint of the event will be an international football friendly between home-based Super Eagles of Nigeria and their Ghanaian counterparts, the Black Stars.
While welcoming guests and friends to Akwa Ibom, Mr. Umanah, called on the people of the State to come out enmasse to give Mr. President and other guests a rousing welcome to the State.
