Chairman of Arewa Youth Consultative Forum in Lagos, Yerima Shetima, yesterday said since the discovery of hideouts of suspected terrorists in the state, Hausa youths no longer enjoy freedom.
Shetima said many innocent northerners are being arrested; a development that put pressure on him to secure their release.
“Since the incident I have been moving from one police station to another because right now an average Hausa man is seen or perceived as Boko Haram and this is not good. We are lovers of peace.
“We have been moving from one local government to another sensitizing our people on why they should be security conscious at all times. We have told them that if they discover any strange movement in their area they should alert the security men”, he said.
While acknowledging the state government’s efforts in ensuring that innocent people are not punished for offence they know nothing about, Shetima said, “The state government had called a meeting where the issue was thoroughly discussed. We had another one with 81 Army Division last week; all we are telling them was that we are committed to peace and that we will all rise up to condemn any act of threat to unity of Nigeria”.
