A 23 year old commercial sex worker was on Wednesday sentenced to three weeks in prison by an Abuja Magistrate court for biting off the tongue of her client.
The Presiding Magistrate,Mrs Jancinta Okeke how ever granted,the prostitute, Uche Archibong, a resident of Jabi village an option of N1000 fine.
Okeke in her judgement ordered the commercial sex workers to pay the sum of N30,000 to the complainant as money he spent in the hospital to stitched back his tongue.
Earlier,the Prosecutor,Inspector Clement Egwu had told the court that one,Mr. Ephraim Okoronkwo reported the case of grievous bodily harm to the police on July 9.
He said the complainant and the accused had a misunderstanding after he had picked her from town to his abode on day of the incident.
Egwu further explained that the accused jumped on the complainant in the midst of the argument she bit off his tongue.
The prosecutor said the bite caused Okoronkwo serious injury,resulting in his admission at the gwarimpa Hospital,where he is still receiving treatment.
The convict, who later spoke to journalists said the complainant breached the agreement between them before the sex.
She said that he paid for sex only,but in the act,he went beyond the terms of agreement.
In a similar situation, Lagos State Taskforce on Environmental and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit has arrested 52 commercial sex workers.
The ladies, whose ages range between 18 and 34 years, were raided at different spots in Isaac John and Toyin streets in Ikeja by policemen attached to the unit.
It was learnt that the exercise, which took place between 10pm on Wednesday and 1am on Thursday, was as a result of several petitions by residents of the areas against the sex workers.
The source within the task force, said, “We started moving round Toyin Street and later Isaac John Street to know where the prostitutes usually stand to solicit for customers.
“As soon as we were satisfied, we started arresting them. The exercise did not last for more than three hours.”
Task force Chairman, Bayo Sulaiman, a Superintendent of Police, confirmed the arrest.
He said, “There had been complaint by residents against a surge of commercial sex workers on Isaac John and Toyin streets.
“Isaac John Street is where we have the Government House and it is a criminal offence to solicit for sex by roadside.”
He warned that the task force would extend its raids to Lagos Island, Ikoyi and Victoria Island where he said commercial sex activities had been on the increase.
