A PR campaign ended in pain for many motorist in Russia’s capital city of Moscow as more than 500 road accidents were recorded as drivers were distracted by the sight of a woman’t bare breast on moving vans.
The campaign which has been called ‘poorly-thought out’, shows a woman cupping her breast with a thin strip across the nipples with the words, “They attract”
As the 30 vans drove around the city for the day, several drivers lost control and got in car accidents. A total of 517 were recorded in one day alone.
“I was on my way to a business meeting when I saw this truck with a huge photo of breasts on its side go by. Then I was hit by the car behind who said he had been distracted by the truck,” recounted 35-year-old Ildar Yurier who was affected in one of the accidents. “It made me late and left my car in the garage and although I am insured I am still out of pocket.”
The advertising company, ADVTruck.ru, that ran the campaign said it would pay compensation to all those affected.
“We are planning to bring a new advertising format onto the market, encouraging companies to place their ads on the sides of trucks, as we thought this would be a good alternative to putting them on the sides of public transport,” a spokesman for the company said. “‘We wanted to draw attention to this new format with this campaign. In all cases of accidents, the car owners will receive compensation costs from us that aren’t covered by their insurance.’
