Five topless activists from the women’s rights movement Femen protested at New York's Times Square in their usual style against Russia's military intervention into Ukraine on Thursday, March 6.
WARNING - NUDITY
The women striped off to the waist, baring their breasts to show slogans and signs painted on their bodies, asking for tougher US and EU action against Moscow.
The topless protests chests were painted blue and yellow - colours of the Ukrainian national flag - with words "F**k Putin".
The activists tore apart a Russian flag and raise banners slamming Putin's "occupation" of Crimea asking for US and EU immediate sanctions, "US-EU, stop talking start acting".
Inna Shevchenko, a leader of the women's movement FEMEN said that the protest was in support of the Ukrainian people, in support of the Ukrainian revolution against Putin, against Russian occupation.
According to Shevchencko, Putin is scared of one thing - of the people's power. He's not scared of the US or EU. He's playing games.
That is why the activists called on the USA and EU to impose sanctions "much more serious than just restrictions of visas" and freezing of assets of officials.
Also several Femen activists were arrested on Thursday while shouting "Stop Putin's War" in Crimea's capital Simferopol after carrying out topless protest against Russia's incursion into Ukraine in front of the regional parliament.
