A groom’s father, seated in the pews of a Catholic church in Benin, Edo state, on Saturday and watching as his son, the groom, wed his bride, was killed when a car crashed into the church and struck him.
It has to be one of the most bizarre accidents. Premium Times reports that the victim, Edward Airhiavbere, was hit by flying Toyota Camry when a young chauffeur who was re-parking an SUV outside lost control of the vehicle, hit the Camry from behind and sent it crashing into the church and on to the seated father of the groom.
The wedding, attended by some the capital city’s elite, ended abruptly with the death of the elderly Airhiavbere.
Family members and wedding guests were said to have rushed him to the hospital following the accident, but he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The unidentified driver who set the fatal accident in motion was said to have fled the scene in the confusion that trailed the bizarre accident.
Both the bride and groom were left in tears on what was supposed to be the happiest day of their lives.
