My Uruan people have one lofty aphorism, which when directly translated says, "When you cannot catch the shark, search for crayfish, instead of leaving the ocean without a haul". The recent activity of the Akwa Ibom APC and their candidate aptly suits that saying. It is simply annoying that the APC took a case to the Election tribunal for a decision and after messing up with the case by parading witnesses that contradicted itself, it now storms the media to create a false impression that it is winning.
The truth which no one can deny is that the APC in Akwa Ibom is playing on the sympathy of a few people to keep hope alive in what is unarguably a hopeless situation. Their move is comparable to the recent Frank Okon's case, where a lot of Akwa Ibom people lost billions of naira to that unholy crusade of winning party nomination with two votes and becoming the governor of Akwa Ibom State through litigation, without any visible political structure within the State. The victims of Frank Okon's political and financial genocide are still quietly licking their unhealed wounds and scruffy hearts, which still need time to go through the process of healing.
The APC candidate, Umana Okon Umana, I dare say, is stranded with the vain hope that President Mohammadu Buhari will destroy his reputation by influencing the tribunal process in his favour. Nothing at the moment really suggests that. Umana is alone and lonely on this journey of vendetta and self-destruct.
His rejection by President Buhari, who sees him as a very unethical public officer has also caused the national Leader of the All Progressive Congress, Bola Tinubu to withdraw his support.
I'm sure at the moment he is struggling to get one big voice at the party to help his helpless condition and that explains Alhaji Atiku Abubakar's recent slant on Akwa Ibom elections. Feeble posture if you ask me. Obong Umana has generally been left to his fate. Just like a bat who neither belongs to the family of the animals nor that of the birds, Umana who doesn't want to remain without a power cabal is off to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar , the former Vice President to seek for solace at the 11th hour.
The former Nigerian Vice President who has been condemned by his boss the former President of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo as a very corrupt public officer is not the man to swim with Mr Integrity at the top. Again, Atiku does not have a winning structure as it is scorned by many in the political class.
Obong Umana Okon Umana employs a lot of lies to sustain his political momentum. It ranges from the police report to the forensic report that all is in his favour. He claims that, because of this he will win at the tribunal with the help of Atiku Abubakar. On many occasions, some of the aides of the former Vice President are seen in the company of Umana in court, to observe the proceedings of the Court.
A brother to one of Umana’s lawyers boasted in the Court premises that the Chairman of the tribunal is a relation of Atiku, so he will deliver judgement in Umana’s favour . Justice Umar Sadiq will not sink his integrity in the mud , with billions of dollars .
The Akwa Ibom APC sees things in rose-tinted glasses. The forensic team that was packaged by his new found northern friends was just classified fraud, as the team earned over 300 million naira from Umana Okon Umana, but presented a report that can only be done by quacks. The forensic team of Obong Umana Okon Umana came to court to present the outcome of the forensic result that was laughable to both the judges and the court audience. Forensic results are classified, visible or non-visible. But, when the scientists hired by Umana Okon Umana made their submissions, instead of giving competent reports, they relegated their findings to what many believed was improbable, raising fear that, Umana was being defrauded by the team.
They told the court that animals were used for thumb-printing during the April 11th election in Akwa Ibom State.
The quacks, who styled themselves as a team of forensic experts, used 300 ( DPI) dot per inch , instead of the internationally accepted rule of 600 ( DPI ), and when the court questioned them on their qualification, it was revealed to the Court that none of them was a forensic fingerprint expert but mere road side computer quacks.
The APC in Akwa Ibom are also going around town claiming that, the police report was totally in their favour. Ignorantly, these primitive jokers refuse to come to self-realisation that any document presented to the Court can be assessed by any interest group. All it takes , is to apply for authorization. The police report submitted to Akwa Ibom election tribunal is not lopsided; it includes the electoral fraud done by the chieftain of Akwa Ibom State APC that was caught kidnapping NYSC members and electoral material to his private home in Nist Attai Local Government.
The police report also indicted APC for killing a Peoples Democratic Party member in Ini Local Government by hired thugs brought into Akwa Ibom State by Umana's men. The police xrays how Austin Mbeh snatched ballot boxes in Obot Akara .
Though the police report recorded few of these incidents, but did not invalidated election in Akwa Ibom State ,neither did the report recommended that election must be cancelled in the State as touted by lame APC leaders and few supporters in the State.
The candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the last Akwa Ibom State governorship race, Obong Umana Okon Umana is deceiving unsuspecting women and youths in villages to dispossess them of their voters card. Investigating the matter, I was told by some petty traders who formed a co-operative women group that the agents of the APC candidate had informed them that President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered a re-run of the Governorship elections which Governor Udom Emmanuel won and that, they should hand over their cards so that they would enjoy government patronage, employment, financial grants and other benefits when Umana takes over. And these men hand to them forms to fill, that their children will also be given jobs and that, they should pay ten thousand naira each.
The woman said, they were offered between a paltry 200 and 500 Naira for each card and some of the women who do not understand the fraud have since parted with their cards.
The Akwa Ibom APC without any structure across the State believe they can use deception and bribery to win elections through the courts and they are spreading false rumours using the social media and some local dailies in the state to galvanise the minds of the people to sympathise with them. Umana should know that lies win no war, but truth prevails forever.
