A Canadian woman realized her desire to join the "Mile High Club," but this membership has no privileges.
Alicia Elizabeth Lander, 26, was convicted Wednesday of committing an indecent act in public, assaulting a police officer, causing a disturbance and causing mischief to property.
The charges followed her arrest last year for engaging in a sexual act on board an Air Canada flight bound for Halifax.
In court Wednesday, the woman said she could not remember what happened on the plane because she had been drinking.
"I feel ashamed … it's not my character," she testified, according to CBCNews.
Her sentencing hearing is scheduled for July 14.
She and Jason George Chase, 39, were arrested after the airliner landed on Jan. 24, 2014. She met the man as they waited to board their flight in Toronto.
According to witnesses including flight crew attendants, the two had been talking about wanting to join the "Mile High Club" and sat next to each other on the passenger jet.
A crew member said he approached the two and found the woman with her pants pulled down. The man was fondling her and penetrating her with his fingers, the attendant said.
He ordered the woman to get dressed and informed the pilot, who radioed ahead for police to meet the flight.
Chase pleaded guilty earlier this year and has asked for a conditional discharge, which means the offense would be dropped from his record if he stays out of trouble for three years.
Lander fought with members of the Royal Canadian Mountain Police who took her into custody, witnesses said. She kicked them and punched a hole in the wall of an interview room, police said.
The prosecutor said Lander's poor memory held no sway in court.
"The fact that she didn't remember is insignificant. She was drinking, she remembers exactly what she had to drink, but no memory of anything else other than that," said Crown Attorney Cheryl Byard.
