Osun Poll: Omisore Hires 7 SANs, Submits 815-Page Petition To Tribunal

Standard-bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the August 9, 2014 governorship poll, Senator Iyiola Omisore, on Thursday, finally filed 815-page petition at the Election Petition Tribunal, to challenge the declaration of Governor Rauf Aregbesola as the winner of the poll. Accompanied by the chairman of the PDP in the state, Alhaji Ganiyu Olaoluwa, Omisore, who arrived at the premises of the State High Court around 4.05 pm, headed for the office behind one of the court’s buildings, where the secretary of the Election Petition Tribunal, Mr Mohammed Alli received his entourage. Nigeria’s health minister Onyebuchi Chukwu has today confirmed the first recorded death from Ebola in Port Harcourt. An Abuja based legal practitioner, Chidinma Hilary Udebuani, has sued President Goodluck Jonathan and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Chief Judge, Ibrahim Bukar, as well as three others, over the appointment of five new judges for the FCT. Daily Independent reports that the plaintiff who approached a Federal High Court in Abuja, who seeks to halt the appointment of the new appointees also included the Chairman, FCT Judicial Service Commission, the FCT Judicial Committee, the National Judicial Council (NJC) and the Chairman of the NJC in the suit as defendants. Ebola: Several Quarantined In Enugu

The federal government has announced that not less than 21 people have been quarantined in Enugu State, out of the 198 persons who made secondary contact with the 10 primary contacts that were infected with Ebola virus. According to ThisDay, this was made known on Wednesday by the Minister of Information, Labaran Maku, after the weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting in Abuja. The minister also revealed that Nigerian medical experts and researchers are working in conjunction with their colleagues in the US to produce a vaccine for the Ebola virus. Canada Helps Africa Fight Ebola

The Canadian government has said it will donate a small quantity of an experimental Ebola vaccine developed in its lab to the World Health Organisation (WHO) for use in Africa. According to Reuters, this was made known on Wednesday by the country’s Health Minister Rona Ambrose. The minister explained that the decision to donate the vaccine was propelled by WHO approval to offer untested drugs to people infected by the virus. Court Remands Islamic Cleric In Prison Over Rituals

New Ebola Case Confirmed In Lagos

Nigeria on Monday confirmed a new case of Ebola in Lagos, bringing the total number of people in the country with the virus to 10. Health minister Onyebuchi Chukwu said the latest confirmed case was a female nurse who came into contact with a Liberian-American man, Patrick Sawyer, who died of Ebola in a Lagos hospital on July 25. In addition to Sawyer, another nurse who had contact with him died last week, while seven other people have been confirmed to have the virus in the city, he added. “The 10th case actually was one of the nurses who also had primary contact with the index case. When he (Sawyer) got ill, we then brought her into isolation,” the minister told a news conference in Abuja. “We just tested her over the weekend. So, that’s what made it 10. So, between Friday and today we had one additional case. Girl, 15, Missing With Older Man

Police are searching for a missing 15-year-old girl who has disappeared with a man twice her age. Schoolgirl Rebecca McLean, was last seen on Saturday morning in Ryde on the Isle of Wight with 33-year-old Michael Britten, Hampshire police said.
